Jie Zhang, Ph.D., is a Senior Engineer who works at CHI since 2018. He received his Ph.D. Degree in Civil Engineering from Tongji University in China.
Jie has over 10 years’ experience in design, seismic assessment, and rehabilitation of bridges, including arch bridge, cable stayed bridge, etc. His projects include the design of I-395 Signature Bridge, the modular joint rehabilitation of Manhattan Bridge, the seismic evaluation and retrofit of Throgs Neck Bridge Approach, etc. In addition, Jie has strong expertise in finite element analysis and 3D modeling.
For the I-395 Signature Bridge, Jie led the design of Arch 5, which is precast concrete arch about 650’ long and 330’ tall. The design was extremely challenging due to super high wind loads, limited arch rib width, and many construction and operational stages. In addition, Jie played a very important role in the design of the Center Pier in I-395, where all six arches merge – another super challenging task of the project.
