Throgs Neck Bridge - Suspender Tension Measurements

Throgs Neck Bridge, a suspension bridge over the East River connecting the Bronx with Queens, is undergoing suspender rope replacements. A work-in-progress photo of one of these replacement locations is shown in the figure. The tensions in the new suspender ropes are a measurement of interest, as they can help determine if the new suspenders behave as expected. Select suspenders were measured and analyzed using CHI’s computer vision technology. Tests were conducted multiple times across several months, allowing for verification of the suspender tensions. The tests were conducted on total of 16 suspender ropes, and the results were believed to be very accurate, especially since some results match very well with the load cell readings where available.
