CHI has developed an innovative Computer Vision–based methodology for continuous monitoring of bridge bearing displacements and responses, encompassing both long-term thermal-induced movements and short-term high frequency effects from live loads. The monitoring system was implemented on a steel bridge and operated reliably over several months, enabling the collection of high-quality, long-duration datasets for subsequent analysis.
This CV-based approach offers several unique advantages: (1) simultaneous multi-point measurement without the need for physical contact, (2) visual outputs that provide more intuitive and convincing evidence than conventional curve-based graphs, and (3) permanent video records, allowing data to be reanalyzed to extract additional insights as needed.
